We tackle each challenge with a unique combination of
qualities, skills and tactics.
Rather than try to shoe-horn a single, bi-partisan message, we take a dual-partisan approach, crafting distinct tactics for audiences from opposite ends of the political spectrum. The unifying theme is your success. We come from opposite ends of the political spectrum and work together to develop distinct approaches to policy-makers and demographic groups who might never agree with each other, but find themselves agreeing with you. We worked in the West Wing of the White House, one of us for George W. Bush, another for Bill Clinton. One of us headed the conservative advocacy group, “Freedom’s Watch,” another co-founded the progressive talk network, “Air America Radio.” One of us contributes to Fox News, another to MSNBC. We bring opposite political sensibilities to your particular set of goals and help you appeal to a wide range of audiences.
Some advocates are technical experts but lack ability to connect with a general audience. Others exude flair and style but lack any depth or analysis. We capture the best of both, investing the time and effort to understand the policy, legal, business, and technical details while translating your goals into words, images, and symbols that resonate with a wide range of audiences. We are political operatives. We are attorneys with experience in the courtroom, independent regulatory agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and Congress. We teach at Georgetown University and have deep expertise in key areas of law and public policy. We also are creative thinkers who know how to connect with an audience, whether by coming up with a catch phrase that captured national attention in a Presidential campaign (“Sore Loserman” during the 2000 recount) or creating a new genre in talk radio (“Macho Liberal Talk on Sirius/XM). We tackle complex, important issues, assess the key elements, and develop simple, clear, and memorable ways to communicate the right message. We combine the thoroughness of a lawyer; the doggedness of a reporter; and the artistry of a creative agency to make a complicated issue simple and compelling.
We develop and execute action plans that garner attention and help the message stick. By combining our backgrounds in political advance, press, and public policy, we conceptualize events that the press wants to cover and people want to follow, and then execute with precision the actions necessary to bring those events to life.
We craft earned- and paid-media campaigns across a variety of platforms, depending on the target audience. We score coverage in mainstream print news outlets such as the New York Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, and Sports Illustrated; cable news networks such as Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN and BBC; online publications such as Huffington Post and Deadspin.com; terrestrial and satellite radio; along with social networks and the blogosphere.
We deploy social media, search optimization, original online video, blogging, e-mail, photo-sharing, and other digital media tools to amplify your message. We believe that a digital media strategy works best in tandem with a targeted earned-media campaign aimed at the audience of policymakers and opinion-shapers who matter most.
We bring stakeholders together into powerful coalitions, assembling unlikely allies behind a single purpose. Reflecting the differences in our own backgrounds, we have united corporations and consumers; conservative taxpayer advocates and progressive public interest groups; Republicans and Democrats; conservative columnists and liberal bloggers. We engage with think tanks, academics, and thought leaders to rally intellectual support behind your cause. We never hide behind “Astroturf.” We find the right message for each stakeholder to establish why they support what they support, making transparency easy and secrecy unnecessary.
Whether you are managing government affairs, complex litigation, or a consumer marketing campaign, we integrate into your team and adapt to the legal, political, and/or business demands of your project. Chances are, we have been in your shoes—as lawyers, managers, business people, or policy advocates—and want to work seamlessly with the rest of your team.
